- Question
- Tell me how the low voltage detector works.
- Answer
- One side of an AC 100V household outlet is grounded (grounded) through a pole transformer (mounted on the top of a utility pole), and the human body is also indirectly grounded through several routes.
When a person holds a voltage detector and approaches the "non-grounded side (non-grounded side)" of the outlet, 100V AC is indirectly applied to the human body and creates an electric field. The voltage detector senses this electric field and reacts (beeps and LED lights up).
Therefore, the detector does not respond even if it approaches the grounded side of the outlet. In other words, the voltage detector reacts only when it approaches the non-grounded side.
